What is the difference between Secondary 1 G3 and G2 syllabus?
Have you received a call from your child's teacher discussing the option to advance to the G3 syllabus? Or are you wondering whether you should allow your child to take this step? Or maybe you are looking at going into G3 from G2 after the mid year exams? Math Lobby has analysed and prepared a detailed comparison of the similarities and differences between the G3 and G2 syllabus to help you make an informed decision.
The below summary is prepared by Math Lobby:

The overall differences between the Secondary 2 G3 and G2 syllabus can be summarised as follows:
- Complexity and Depth: - The G3Â covers more advanced topics, such as quadratic equations, their graphs and operations with algebraic fractions.
- The G2Â focuses on foundational skills, like simplification of expressions and basic linear equations and inequalities.

- Algebra and Functions: - G3Â includes quadratic functions and their properties.
- G2Â limits itself to linear functions and gradients, omitting quadratic concepts.

- Equations and Inequalities: - G3Â incorporates solving quadratic equations and simultaneous equations with multiple methods.
- G2Â focuses on linear equations and basic inequalities.

- Geometry and Measurement: - Both syllabus include Pythagoras’ theorem.
- G3Â includes Sine, Cosine and Tangent (TOA, CAH & SOH) and a more application-based learning in congruence and similarity.

- Statistics and Probability: - Both syllabus have similar coverage, focusing on statistical diagrams, measures of central tendency and basic probability.

Overall, the G3 syllabus emphasizes higher-order thinking and problem-solving, while the G2 syllabus prioritizes fundamental understanding and gradual skill-building.

It is crucial to recognize the differences between the G2 and G3 syllabus, which is why we ensure they are not combined in the same class. At Math Lobby, we provide separate classes for G2 and G3 Math tailored to each level. Our teachers are highly knowledgeable about the syllabus, enabling them to effectively address the unique needs of students at both levels.
